Mohawks of Wahta
The Kanienkeha:ka Wahta Mohawks decided to improve the grounds of their Cultural Healing Centre. They wished to expand the activities available to all community members for recreation, relaxation, and cultural renewal. Incite Planning assisted in focussing those aspirations.
The Cultural Healing Centre building is the former location of the Band Office and cenotaph, which have now been moved to the new Administration Building. Before that it was the setting of a Day School run by the federal government. The land is a mix of open sports field, playground, community garden, and forest. Incite Planning was retained to collaborate with community members and Wahta staff to identify a long-term vision for the site that served the interests of the community. Based on this vision, we examined the property for constraints and prospects that existed for this land to determine the optimal use of the current facilities and potential for new ones. Options for the layout and design these facilities and improved parking were provided.
